Trop Crop, Jane Butler/Flora Legion

ABOUT THE PIECE

For the toad busting show I made a vase/vessel sleeve from toad leather and tree bark.

The sleeve can be removed and fitted to any vessel of choice so therefore can be used multiple times to avoid waste.

The title of my piece is Trop Crop as I wanted to draw attention to the destruction of food crops caused by cane toads since their introduction to Queensland in the 1930s.

The cane toad leather is surprisingly easy to work with and can be manipulated in many ways making it a great choice of leather for an increasing number of artists and makers wanting to use ethical sourced materials.
